an explicit equation for calculating critical depth in trapezoidal channels
Authors
abstract
trapezoidal channels are frequently used in irrigation networks and other free surface water conveyance systems. the computation of the critical flow depth is one of the primary importance in the design process. it is usually determined by using design charts of iteration techniques. however, researchers have recently proposed formulas that directly provide approximate solutions. this paper presents an explicit equation for calculating critical flow depths in trapezoidal channels. the proposed equation is applicable to any trapezoidal channel dimensions and provides the highest accuracy among available methods.

Development of a Direct Explicit Equation for Hydraulic Design of Semi-elliptical Channels
One of the common concrete channels in irrigation networks is the semielliptical prefabricated channels. Manning formula is usually used to design these channels. The cross-sectional area and the wetted perimeter are required to be calculated in Manning formula. There are no analytical solutions to directly compute these parameters. Thus, numerical integration methods are inevitably used. In th...
full textExplicit equations for critical depth in open channels with complex compound cross sections. A discussion
In open channel hydraulics, the notion of critical flow conditions and critical depth are not restricted to open channel flows with hydrostatic pressure distributions. This contribution shows an extension of the concept of critical flow conditions linked with the minimum specific energy, as introduced by Bakhmeteff [1] and extended by Liggett [9] and Chanson [5]. It demonstrated that the critic...
full textDevelopment of a computer model for long-throated flumes based on manning equation and different side slopes of trapezoidal channels
ABSTRACT- Measurement of irrigation water in agricultural areas is necessary, especially, in arid and semi-arid regions. Long-throated flumes have been used to measure irrigation water and are known to be inexpensive devices with high performances. In these structures, head-discharge tables are predicted theoretically with no need to calibrate. In this study, the model of LOTF ...

purpose accurate measurement or prediction of fat mass is useful in physiology, nutrition and clinical medicine. most predictive equations currently used to assess percentage of body fat or fat mass, using simple anthropometric measurements were derived from people in western societies and they may not be appropriate for individuals with other genotypic and phenotypic characteristics. we develo...
